What's one circumstance in your life when God has given you Hope when you needed it?
When I returned to NY from Florida 3 years after my wife had passed away, I lost my job, my house burned down and I became disabled. I was really down and on the verge of depression. While sitting at home I cried out to God - not for help mind you - but instead, I asked for God to use me. My friend and eventual mentor contacted me to see how I was doing.
I shared with him my situation and he said he had been contacted to oversee a project to get churches involved in a Christian men’s event coming to NYC. He asked if I would work with him as I had worked on an event 20 years in NYC called “I Found It”.
I wasn’t sure what I could do to help, but I said yes. That was over 15 years ago, and after that event I had renewed hope in my life which has led me to a Christian non-profit called Here’s Life Inner City where I am ministering along with my friend Glen.
In addition, I also serve a disabled community where I live, and I am involved in the funding of a commemorative statue of FDR sitting in a Wheelchair.
What excites me being part of Hope Church is... the care and love I see in our community, which I believe will make an impact in our neighborhood where we will be able to meet both spiritual and physical needs.
My hope for Astoria is... that the care and love that Hope church members have for each other will draw many people to its community where people can experience unconditional care and love and have an opportunity to hear of God’s love and plan for their lives.
