Understanding Scripture in its Cultural Context Workshop

What was clear to the original readers of Scripture is not always clear to us. Because of the cultural distance between the biblical world and our contemporary setting, we often bring modern Western biases to the text. When we do this the result is that the Bible’s liberating truths can become stifled and the God of the Scriptures heart of love is misconstrued as oppressive to our modern eyes.

On Sunday, October 20th from 1:15 - 3:45 PM in the first floor kid's classroom, we are excited to have Biblical scholar Brandon O'Brien as he sheds light on the ways that Western readers often misunderstand the cultural dynamics of the Bible. This time of equipping will empower us to have greater self-awareness and understanding of cultural differences in language, time and social mores resulting in us seeing the Bible in fresh and unexpected ways. Join us we learn to read Scripture as a member of the global body of Christ. If you have questions, please contact Pastor Kris (kristian@hopechurchnyc.org).
