Hope Astoria Men's Retreat : Fully Satisfied

Come join us for a weekend away at America’s Keswick retreat center from Friday evening Nov 1st to Sunday afternoon Nov 3rd! The Scriptures tell us that God has put eternity in our hearts. Everywhere you look you will find men searching for meaning, significance and love as we seek to fill the eternal void inside of us. We set out to satisfy these yearnings through our work, relationships and accomplishments, but in the end we are left wanting because these temporal things could never fill our deepest longings. In the midst of our searching, Jesus pursues us and desires to reveal to men that what we long for can only truly be found in him.

Join us at our first Hope Astoria Men’s Retreat as we discover what it means to be fully satisfied in Christ. We're pushing past pat answers and religious cliches for the aches in our souls as we create an atmosphere of honesty and fun. Cost is $130 including 5 meals and transportation. Financial assistance is available. For more information, contact Jason at jvillacresfitness@gmail.com.

Hope Justice Community Town Hall: Talking Healthy Families, Healthy Communities

As some of you may know, over the past year the Hope Justice team has engaged in conversations around social justice, sparking a two-phase Hope Justice Initiative campaign.

Phase One - Hearing the hearts of our brothers and sisters within the church through the “Know Our Neighbour” campaign. Through this effort, we have been able to learn more about our church identity.

Phase Two - We are now shifting our direction outward and seeking to highlight the issues impacting our neighbors. We asked ourselves, “How can we make our community a better place?” The answer was simple: ask the community.

On behalf of the Hope Justice Committee, we invite you to join our conversation at our inaugural Community Town Hall Meeting.

Hope Justice Community Town Hall: Talking Healthy Families, Healthy Communities

Understanding Scripture in its Cultural Context Workshop

What was clear to the original readers of Scripture is not always clear to us. Because of the cultural distance between the biblical world and our contemporary setting, we often bring modern Western biases to the text. When we do this the result is that the Bible’s liberating truths can become stifled and the God of the Scriptures heart of love is misconstrued as oppressive to our modern eyes.

On Sunday, October 20th from 1:15 - 3:45 PM in the first floor kid's classroom, we are excited to have Biblical scholar Brandon O'Brien as he sheds light on the ways that Western readers often misunderstand the cultural dynamics of the Bible. This time of equipping will empower us to have greater self-awareness and understanding of cultural differences in language, time and social mores resulting in us seeing the Bible in fresh and unexpected ways. Join us we learn to read Scripture as a member of the global body of Christ. If you have questions, please contact Pastor Kris (kristian@hopechurchnyc.org). Please RSVP at: https://tinyurl.com/AstoriaBibleWorkshop

Morning Prayer Call: daily Monday July 29th to Friday August 2nd, 7am-8am

As we’ve been learning how Jesus teaches us to pray, we find that he instructs us to pray with others as part of how we experience our rooting and deepening in prayer. In these daily prayer calls, we’ll get to still ourselves before God, pray through a passage of scripture, and pray for one another’s needs. Whether you can join us for one day or multiple days this week, we believe this will be a powerful time together. To join the call go to https://zoom.us/j/871920962 For any questions, contact kristian@hopechurchnyc.org
