Join us as we volunteer with setup, food service, and cleanup at Legal Outreach's Octoberfeast.  Legal Outreach prepares youth from under-served communities all across NYC to graduate from high school and apply to college, and Octoberfeast is an special event for the youth to meet their mentors for the first time. Volunteers are needed between 4:30pm to 7:30pm. Hispanic Heritage Month is a celebration running from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 designed to honor the cultures and contributions of Hispanic individuals across the United States. Join us on September 28th for a special service including worship music in both Spanish & English and a flavorful meal afterward to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and the beautiful diversity that makes up God's kingdom!

Join us for food, fun, and more on September 21st after second service as we celebrate our incredible Pastor Denise on her last weekend serving at Hope Astoria! She has been an integral part of our community. We will miss her warm greetings, joyful presence, attentive stewardship of teams and people, and all around wonderful character! Join us for a wonderful time of worship, prayer, and pressing into God's presence! After second service on Sunday, September 14th, we'll have an extended time of praise & worship, followed by some time of teaching, prayer, and Holy Spirit ministry. This is an opportunity to press into the deeper things of God and allow the Spirit to move on our hearts. We come with the hopeful expectation that God will meet us powerfully.

Our Kids Ministry is thrilled to invite you to our annual Lemonade Stand on Sunday, September 14th! The kids are full of joy and can’t wait to serve you a refreshing cup of lemonade as we share smiles, fellowship, and community together. This year, all proceeds will go to SJA (Seek Just Action, our church's partnerships with local nonprofits).  The stand will be open from the end of first service until the beginning of second service. We are happy to accept cash, Zelle, or Venmo. Stop by, be blessed, and support our little ones as they learn the joy of serving.

Ravenswood Family Day – Hope Justice Vendor Invitation

The Ravenswood Tenant Association is celebrating its 75th Anniversary,  hosting its Annual Family Day on September 6th, 2025 11:30(set up) 12pm - 6 pm. Hope Justice is welcomed & honored to participate as a community vendor! This vibrant event is a powerful opportunity to deepen relationships, serve local families, and celebrate the spirit of unity.

What We’re Offering:

In June we called our church to gather to share an important update regarding Pastor Denise’s upcoming transition when she becomes Experience Vineyard’s new Executive Pastor (Please click here to read the email we shared with our church in June). 

During those meetings we shared our journey of discernment and created space for Q&A. Those moments were a beautiful mixture of sadness because our time with Pastor Denise will be ending soon, but there was also a sense of joy as we celebrate her obedience to the call of God. Our focus since those meetings has been to express our love and appreciation for Pastor Denise for her 10+ years of faithful leadership. 

In August we want to call the church together to begin to discuss our next steps to bring stability to our church in the days ahead, talk about the culture we have created at Hope Astoria and begin to look toward our future as a church. 

We hope you can join us for either one of these meetings (the same information will be covered in both):

We also would encourage folks to bring their own money if you would like to purchase additional food and drink as well as to generously tip the wait staff.

Follow up Pentecost with a look at multicultural/multiracial depictions of Jesus and what we can learn from them. You ever wonder about why Jesus is so freely accepted painted as a white guy?  Bring a curious friend (no need to be Christian) to walk through Jesus' life story as told through different cultures around the world! Learn about how Latin American liberation theology can bring new understanding to the crucifixion, how aboriginal Australians have a different concept of heaven-- even how European concepts have shaped the church's understanding of Mary!
