No.  Please visit findmypollsite.vote.nyc/ to find the site assigned to you for early voting. Locations for early voting versus on Election Day are different.

Can I go to any polling site to vote?

No. You must go to the site assigned to your location, both for Early Voting and on Election Day. Please visit findmypollsite.vote.nyc/ to find the site assigned to you.

Are the early voting hours the same as Election Day?

No.  When you look up your polling site (findmypollsite.vote.nyc/) you’ll find the hours they’re open.

Can I vote even if I don’t have a photo ID?

Yes. Registered voters do not need to show ID to vote, unless they did not provide identification with their registration. If you have not provided ID by Election Day, you are still allowed to vote by affidavit ballot, but not using the poll site scanner. For more information, please refer to: https://vote.nyc/page/voter-id .

When is the last day to register to vote in New York?

The last day to register to vote for the general election for 2024 is October 26, 2024.

Absentee Voting

Can anyone vote with an absentee ballot?

Yes! All registered voters can vote by mail if they requested an absentee ballot. The deadline to request an absentee ballot is October 26, 2024. More information for absentee ballots can be found here: https://vote.nyc/RequestBallot

Voters with a print disability, which means any disability that interferes with the effective reading, writing, or use of printed material, and require a ballot with accessible features you may apply using the online Accessible Ballot Application found here: https://requestballot.vote.nyc/accessibility

The deadine to request an accessible ballot online is October 26, 2024. In-person voting using an accessible Ballot Marking Device (“BMD”) during early voting or on Election Day is still available to voters with a disability who do not want to vote using the accessible ballot system.

How can I track my absentee ballot once it’s mailed?

First, you can track your ballot here: nycabsentee.com/tracking

Second, you can always drop it off at local board of elections or at your polling site on or before Election Day.

Anything I need to remember about filling out my ballot?

Remember to read the directions completely.  Make sure to fill the appropriate oval for your candidate completely.

After you complete your ballot, make sure to sign, date, and seal your absentee ballot envelope.  Please do not send anything else to the Board of Elections in that envelope. If anything else is in the envelope, the vote can be disqualified.

My elderly neighbor got his absentee ballot and forgot to mail it. Is there anything I can do to help?

As long as it is before Election Day you can always return it to their local board of elections.  Even on Election Day, you can take that ballot to their voting site.

Election Day

Can I go to any public school to vote?

No.  Please visit https://findmypollsite.vote.nyc/

How do I check to make sure my voter registration is still active?

Go to vote.nyc/page/am-i-registered. Calling the Board of Elections is an option but they are extremely busy, and may take more time to respond than checking online.

What can I do if I get there and they say I’m not registered? Can I vote?

Ask for an affidavit ballot. After the election, the Board of Elections in the City of New York will check its records and your vote will be counted if you are indeed eligible to vote and are at the correct poll site. If not, you will receive a notice that you are not eligible, along with a registration application for future elections.

What if someone wants to vote but they don't speak English?

In New York State, if you are a Limited English Proficient (LEP) person, depending on your County, you may be entitled to receive assistance at the polls, including translated ballots and other election-related materials.

My job can run late sometimes and I’m afraid I might not make it to the poll site on time. What should I do?

If at all possible you should try to vote during early voting.  On Election Day, polling sites open as early as 6 AM.

IMPORTANT! If you are on line at 9 PM (or whatever closing time for your poll site), you will be allowed to vote. A police officer typically joins the line at exactly the time the polls close, and anyone in front of them on line will get to vote.

This election is so exciting, I want to take a selfie when I vote. I can do that right?

No!  You cannot take pictures inside your polling place. You are also not permitted to wear clothing (mask included) depicting the name of a candidate on the current ballot. You may be asked to put them away or turn them inside out before entering the polling place.

I sent in my absentee ballot - but I’ve changed my mind about a candidate.  What can I do?

You can go and vote on election day. This will then invalidate the absentee ballot you submitted.
